Bet on Scunthorpe vs Man Utd – Baraclough fancies his chances

Published:

If Manchester United are to head to Scunthorpe and take the game lightly, Ian Baraclough believes they will do so “at their peril.”

Baraclough has warned Sir Alex Ferguson that his Scunthorpe side are ready to cause an upset if the Manchester United squad head to Glanford Park thinking the game will be a stroll in the park.

Match Odds

Baraclough is currently caretaker manager of Scunthorpe and his side are as big as 6/1 to win the Carling Cup tie but with a tightly packed Glanford Park behind them, Baraclough believes a major scalp is possible.

“These aren’t the sort of salubrious surroundings they are used to,” said Baraclough, “we have players to capitalise on that.”

Manchester United have lost three of their last six Carling Cup matches against lower league opposition which would suggest Baraclough can be confident of an upset.

The Premier League side are 1/6 to progress to the next round, 4/9 to do it in the 90 minutes, and despite Ferguson’s policy of resting first team players, Scunthorpe fans will be able to see Michael Owen, Javier Hernandez, Gary Neville and Anderson in action.

Total Goals

Scunthorpe can boast a decent scoring record in the Carling Cup, finding the net in six successive cup ties and Chris Dagnall has been in fine form for the Irons and is 9/1 to score first.

But Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen will relish the thought of testing themselves against lower league opposition and they are 11/8 and 1/1 respectively to score at any time.

The Irons faithful can look forward to seeing a few goals and it’s 8/13 for there to be over 2.5 goals.

Manchester United are 7/1 to come from behind and win. See the full Scunthorpe vs Manchester United match betting market here.
