Guedioura to miss large portion of Wolves’ battle with relegation
Published:Wolves will not be able to rely on Adlene Guedioura to help them stave off the threat of relegation from the Premier League this season as he could face up to six months on the sidelines.
The Algerian midfielder has impressed at Molineux since signing on a permanent basis from RSC Charleroi in the summer and has already played 20 times from Wolves following a loan spell last season.
He was introduced as a second-half substitute in Wolves’ most recent Premier League outing at home to Aston Villa, but was not on the pitch long before being stretchered off following a challenge from Steve Sidwell.
X-rays have revealed the extent of the injury and it is not good news for manager Mick McCarthy as a fractured tibia will keep Guedioura out of action for a minimum of four months.
McCarthy may have been tempted to hand Guedioura a first start of the campaign in Wolves’ next game, which is against another of the top flight’s chief relegation candidates in Wigan, as he looks to end a run of three successive defeats.
This sequence of results has seen them slip down the table and they are 2/1 to be relegated from the Premier League this season.
Wolves are still waiting for their first away victory of the campaign and a win at Wigan would represent their first top-flight success on the road since they won at West Ham in March.
Meanwhile, they have also triumphed 1-0 in their last two away games with Wigan, including in the Premier League last season.
