Kaymer continues strong showing for European Ryder Cup team

Martin Kaymer continued the European Ryder Cup teams dominance of recent European Tour events with their fifth win in a row.

Since Kaymer won the US PGA Championship at the start of August, Peter Hanson, Edoardo Molinari and Miguel Angel Jimenez have continued the European Ryder Cup winning streak with wins in the three subsequent events.

And Kaymer notched up his second win in a month at the KLM Championship to further enhance the European Team’s form ahead of the Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor Resort.

Europe are strong 8/13 favourites to regain the Ryder Cup on European soil and Colin Montgomerie knows his team are in the best of form as they approach the tournament which starts on October 1st.

Kaymer carded a fourth round 66 to finish four shots ahead of Christian Nilsson and Fabrizio Zanotti as he sealed his third win of the season.

However the USA Ryder Cup team hit back almost immediately with Dustin Johnson snatching victory from Paul Casey in the closing stages of the BMW Championship.

Casey had birdied five of the opening 12 holes to catapult himself into the lead, but a horrible bogey run on holes 13,14 and 15 left Johnson with a chance which he took advantage of – his birdie on the 17th securing the win.

Johnson’s win will be a boost to USA captain Corey Pavin after watching the European team dominate on the European Tour and USA are 13/8 to retain the Ryder Cup after winning in Valhalla last time out.

A tie is unlikely but is available at 10/1. See the full Ryder Cup betting market here.
