Montgomerie prepares speech in case Europe lose Ryder Cup
Published:Nick Faldo’s captaincy in the 2008 Ryder Cup was one that bemused, baffled and bewildered anybody that came across the controversial captain’s choices.
His questionable tactics, cringing jokes and resounding defeat meant that Faldo would never see the Ryder Cup captaincy again.
It seemed Colin Montgomerie had learnt from Faldo’s reign and the man who has never been adverse to controversy had, thus far, proven to be a respectable choice to lead the European team.
Today Monty announced that he had prepared his losing speech if the USA team were to win the Ryder cup, 13/8 to do so, and the Scot is starting to attract criticism from some quarters.
The Scot claimed that he had told his team members their pairings for the fourball and foursomes, which was news to Luke Donald and Peter Hanson who claimed that they hadn’t heard a word from their captain.
And despite Monty claiming he has primed a losing speech in order to be prepared, it seems as if the closer the event gets, the more Monty is feeling the pressure.
A Ryder Cup captain is the heartbeat of the team and his choices and motivational capabilities are crucial when steering a side to a Ryder Cup win.
The first signs of Monty starting to feel the pressure aren’t good news for fans of the European team and at odds on, 8/13 to win the Ryder Cup, Monty will need to be at his best if Europe are to regain the Ryder Cup.
