Spurs star Modric admits he’s not been at his best this season

Tottenham’s Croatian playmaker Luka Modric has said that his injury problems this season have made it difficult for him to find his best form.

Speaking to Spurs’ official website Modric acknowledged he has found it hard to match the form he showed last season.

He said “For me, I’m a little out of rhythm. I’ve had a couple of injuries this season and I’m not yet back into my rhythm, but, in a couple of games, I’ll settle down and play better.”

Modric enjoyed his best season for Spurs in 2008/09, contributing 14 assists and four goals.

He followed that up last year with five assists and three goals and will want to recapture his early form as Spurs aim to stay in the top four this season.

Modric was also quick to praise new signing Rafael van der Vaart for his inspired start to his Tottenham career.

He said “It’s not hard to play well with that kind of player and I’m happy he’s here with us.

“Rafa is an exceptional player and he’s showed that since he came to the club, he’s a great signing.”

Spurs have performed well in Modric’s absence, suffering just the one defeat in the three games he has missed.

This is mostly due to the good form of van der Vaart, whose three goals have made him 40/1 to be the Premier League’s top scorer.

Harry Redknapp will want good performances from both van der Vaart and Modric when they travel to Fulham at the weekend, and Spurs will want a win to keep up the pressure on Arsenal and Manchester City.

Priced at 6/4 to win, they will hope to inflict Fulham’s first home defeat of the season.

The Cottagers are solid at home though and at 15/8 shouldn’t be discounted to win.
