Berdych looking to seal his place in the ATP World Tour finals

Published:

With five contenders vying for the three remaining ATP World Tour final spots, the BNP Paribas Masters has seen a new edge added to the tournament.

With plenty of stipulations surrounding the possible outcomes, it would take more than this article to explain the potential placings, but Tomas Berdych just needs a win against Nikolay Davydenko to secure his place in London.

But that win isn’t guaranteed as both players struggle to find their best form on the hard courts, and despite Davydenko slipping to 11th in the world rankings, the Russian is the 8/11 favourite to beat Berdych.

The two know each other’s games inside out having faced off nine times over the past five years, and whilst Berdych beat Davydenko on his way to the Wimbledon final, Davydenko had won all of the previous eight clashes between the two.

Berdych is 1/1 to beat Davydenko despite being ranked five places higher than the Russian.

On only two of the nine occasions these two have met has the match gone the distance and Davydenko is 2/1 to win in 2-0 with Berdych a 9/4 chance to win 2-0.

Robin Soderling vs Stanislas Wawrinka

Soderling vs Wawrinka is an intriguing tie in both tennis and betting terms.

Wawrinka has struggled on the hard courts since making the quarter-final in the US Open, but holds a 2-1 head-to-head record over his opponent and may provide the value at 5/4 to beat Soderling.

Soderling has been consistent without being superb on the hard courts and has been knocked out at the quarter-final stage in three of his last four tournaments.

The Swede is the 4/7 favourite but Wawrinka has the potential to cause an upset, with with it being such a tight match-up over 22.5 games looks the best bet at 5/6.

Wawrinka is 10/3 to beat Soderling 2-1. See the full BNP Paribas Masters betting odds here.
