Fulham vs Aston Villa – Goal-shy Villa short on strikers

Published:

Aston Villa have found goals difficult to come by this season and this is unlikely to get any easier away at Fulham as all three of their leading strikers have been ruled out with injury.

Match Odds

Villa went the whole of October without winning a league game and have not managed to find the target in the top flight in 244 minutes of action.

Add the fact that Gabby Agbonlahor, Emile Heskey and John Carew are all sidelined and it appears unlikely that this barren streak will end at Craven Cottage.

Gerard Houllier’s side are 11/5 to beat Fulham, but that would mean improving on a run which has seen them lose five of their six away Premier League games.

Fulham have only won three of their 18 Premier League clashes with Villa, but will find it tough to find a better opportunity of taking the three points.

They may not have triumphed in back-to-back games since February, but the 5/4 on Fulham following up on their success over Wigan with another victory seems too good to turn down.

Correct Scoreline

Despite Villa suffering from a depleted attack, Fulham may still struggle to keep a clean sheet.

They have only kept out Villa in one of their last eight meetings, while Villa have found the target in their last eight away showdowns with Fulham.

Houllier is likely to move Ashley Young into a more advanced position, while he may feel that the time is right to hand young striker Nathan Delfouneso a first Premier League start after regularly finding the target for the club’s reserves

With Fulham liable to win, backing Mark Hughes’ team to emerge with a 2-1 victory may be the best bet and is available at 8/1.

It has been 22 games since a game between Fulham and Villa finished with either side winning 1-0. See the full Fulham vs Aston Villa match betting odds market.
