Sheffield United will cut Crystal Palace down to size

It was an extremely rare weekend in the Championship last week – both Crystal Palace and Sheffield United won.

Palace won their second home game in a row, with a 2-0 win against Coventry consolidating their 3-2 win against Watford four days previously. The wins have lifted them off the foot of the table at the expense of Preston North End who now occupy the last spot in the Championship.

Meanwhile, the Blades won their last game 1-0 away to Millwall – a result that ended a four game winless run and lifted them to 19th in the table.

Gary Speed looks set to welcome Steven Reid to the starting line-up for the first time since his loan move from Blackburn Rovers, while George Burley could be without Adam Barrett and Claude Davis who are suffering with concussion and flu respectively.

And that’s not the only good news for the Sheffield side.

Palace travel to Bramall Lane with just one victory in their last nine away games and are outsiders in the Championship betting at 11/4. However, they have scored six goals on their last three away days, so United shouldn’t have things all their own way.

The Blades should still come out on top at evens but, if you fancy some slightly longer odds, then Palace’s inability to score in the second-half could be of some interest.

The Eagles have failed to find the net in the final 45 minutes eight times this season, so backing the draw/home win could be worth a few quid at 7/2.
