Barca 5/2 favourites for Champions League

Published:

BARCELONA ARE the 5/2 favourites for the Champions League following their pairing with Arsenal in the draw for the knock-out stages. Real Madrid are the second favourites at 7/2 having been matched with Lyon, who sensationally knocked them out of the competition at the quarter final stage last season.

Chelsea have been cut to 4/1 following their draw with FC Copenhagen, who are now 200/1 rank outsiders.

Tottenham will visit the San Siro for the second time in this campaign and are 1/1 chances to make it to the next round. AC are slight favourites to progress (8/11). With both North London sides facing tough European thoroughbred sides, it’s in Spurs favour as they are 6/5 to progress further than their rivals. It appears more likely however that they both get knocked out in the next round (10/11).

Manchester United have drawn Marseille and they are 2/7 to make it to the next round. They are the 6/4 second favourites behind Chelsea (1/1) to be the furthest progressing English side.

With the top two in the betting, and live outsiders Valencia in the mix Spain appear the most logical country to have any of their teams win, explaining their 10/11 quote. Despite having four runners England are the 6/4 second favourites with Italy 8/1 chances.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “This draw has thrown up some plum ties with the definite highlight being Arsenal – Barcelona. Spanish sides look set to dominate again but we can’t rule out a strong domestic challenge. Premier League contenders Manchester United and Chelsea have been handed easier routes to the next round on paper.”
