Cleverly and Brook to continue rise towards world titles

Nathan Cleverly and Kell Brook both take their next steps on the road towards any dreams of becoming world champions when starring in the Gr8 Britain versus the World event.

Cleverly will surely fight WBO light heavyweight world champion Jurgen Brahmer next year, but he has first been preparing to tackle Spaniard Alejandro Lakatos.

The boxing betting odds have Cleverly as the overwhelming 1/25 favourite to beat the WBO European light heavyweight champion and extend his unbeaten streak to 21 fights.

Cleverly still seems to be getting better in each professional fight and although he does not have the best record for stopping opponents, he should have the superior skills to secure a KO success.

The Welshman is 2/9 in the boxing betting odds to stop Lakatos, while 4/1 is offered that he takes the fight via decision.

Brook just pipped Cleverly to the young boxer of the year accolade in 2009 and he too is still unbeaten in his professional career.

The 23-year-old can also be seen in action on the same card as Cleverly as he defends his WBO intercontinental welterweight title against Philip Kotey.

Brook is rated as the 1/50 favourite in the boxing odds to dispose of Kotey and confirm his position as one of the top five welterweights in the world.

He has won all 22 fights to date, 15 of which by knockout, but he may have to be wary of Kotey’s power as he comes down in weight from light middleweight.

Kotey is 10/1 in the boxing betting market to be a surprise winner, but his previous record against lesser opponents should mean he is short of class in Liverpool.

Brook is 1/9 to beat Kotey by knockout, which is the manner that he has triumphed in his last seven fights.

A £10 bet on Brook winning via the judge’s scorecards could see a return of £60. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
