Wolves favourites for relegation after disastrous Boxing Day

| 27.12.2010

Things couldn’t have gone much worse for Wolverhampton Wanderers this Boxing Day.

First West Ham United produce their best performance of the season to sweep aside Fulham 3-1 and then Wolves themselves slump to a potentially decisive 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic.

Wolves have now swapped places with West Ham in the betting and are favourites to be playing Championship football next term at 4/7.

However, it’s far from terminal for Wolves. There are only five points separating them in bottom place and Aston Villa in 15th spot.

Fulham (7/4) have also slipped into the relegation zone after their defeat to the Irons. Mark Hughes’ side now face a crucial couple of weeks with Stoke, West Bromwich Albion and Wigan all coming up before the middle of January.

How the Cottagers negotiate those games will go some way to showing their survival credentials.

Birmingham (3/1) are just two points off the drop zone in 17th spot after their game against Everton was postponed, and it’s hard to see them getting anything out of Manchester United’s visit to St Andrew’s tomorrow.

Things are incredibly tight at the bottom of the table and because of that there is value to be found all over the Ladbrokes relegation market.

A £10 bet on Aston Villa to be relegated pays out £60. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
