Anderson vs Jenkins – In-form Scot to build on Van Barneveld victory
Published:The PDC World Darts Championship will have two first-time finalists and a new name on the trophy this year after the shocking exits of first and third seeds Phil Taylor and Raymond Van Barneveld on New Year’s Day.
Gary Anderson was the man responsible for eliminating the Dutchman who went all the way in 2007 and having come from behind to ease past Van Barneveld 5-1, he is the 10/11 favourite to win the competition.
The only Scottish survivor is also first on the oche tonight in semi-final action against Terry Jenkins, the seventh seed whose progress is something of a surprise as he went out in the first round in two of the previous three years.
The 47-year-old from Didsbury is the biggest outsider in the betting at 12/1 to go the distance and is 7/2 to triumph in this match alone, however that on its own is huge progress given that he was at one stage available to back at 66/1.
Anderson is a worthy favourite at 1/6 though having won all three of their meetings in the last 24 months, including one in the semis of the Nuland Players Championship, especially as Jenkins was involved in the most tiring Saturday encounter, beating compatriot Wes Newton 5-4.
The world no. 11 has dropped fewer sets than that in his four ties combined but should expect a stern test in tonight’s first-to-six clash as battles between these two never end in dominant victories. The last two have finished 6-3 in Anderson’s favour and it’s 9/2 for that trend to repeat itself.
