Bet on Murray to push all the way in the Australian Open

Andy Murray admits he felt a little rusty in his Australian Open match against Illya Marchenko – but still showed he has the game to be a real threat in this tournament.

Murray is currently 8/1 in the Australian Open betting odds and was comfortable in his 6-1 6-3 6-3 victory earlier today.

He may not have hit his best form during the match, but he was solid and produced plenty of moments that will give him encouragement as he looks to his next game against No.32 seed, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain

He said: “I played well. A lot of the close games I served well in, when I needed to really. That was the difference.

“When you haven’t played many matches for a while, it is good to have those tough games and tight moments. You have to come through those if you want to go deep into the tournament.”

Despite Garcia-Lopez improving his game considerably in recent seasons – an improvement that lead to a final berth in Eastbourne last summer – Murray should make comfortable progress.

The Scot is third in the Australian Open betting behind Roger Federer – who defeated Murray in the final last year – and favourite for the title, Rafa Nadal.

Federer is currently priced at 7/4 while Nadal is in at 13/8. It’s hard to look beyond those two for the title, but if anyone is able to break their stranglehold on the majors, it’s Murray.
