Crouch a different option in Tottenham’s title quest

| 26.01.2011

Peter Crouch still has a leading role to play in Tottenham’s quest to win the Premier League this season and will therefore not be leaving the club in the January transfer window.

Harry Redknapp will still have slim hopes of leading the London club to the title, even though they are 80/1 in the Premier League odds to make up 13 points on current leaders Manchester United.

Tottenham are currently fifth in the standings and their main aim will be to repeat their achievements of last season, when breaking into the top four.

Crouch has started more league games than any other Tottenham striker this season, while he has played some part in all 23 fixtures.

However, just one goal is not a great return from this number of games and with Aston Villa and Sunderland circling for a potential bid, there may have been a temptation for Redknapp to cash in.

However, despite being interested in bringing the likes of Giuseppe Rossi and Luis Fabiano to White Hart Lane, Redknapp has stated that Crouch is still an integral part of his plans.

This is because he poses a different threat to all of his fellow strikers and has already proved the perfect foil for Rafael Van der Vaart through much of the campaign to date.

The way he also links with Jermain Defoe is another reason why he is appreciated by Redknapp and why he is more likely to remain at Tottenham than either Roman Pavlyuchenko or Robbie Keane.

Alongside certainly being the perfect ‘plan b’ option in the Premier League, Crouch has proved a bigger force in Europe and has been one of their star performers in the Champions League, with defenders still trying to uncover the best way of thwarting his impact.

A £25 stake on Spurs winning the Champions League would return £550. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
