Forlan is the best bet to help Atletico Madrid sink Mallorca

Published:

Diego Forlan may not have been on the scoresheet often for Atletico Madrid of late, but he is likely to prove the difference as the club prepare to entertain Mallorca.

First Goalscorer

Forlan scored on his first start back for Atletico Madrid after sitting on the sidelines for a month with an ankle injury when hitting their only goal in a 3-1 Copa Del Rey defeat to Real Madrid.

Therefore, he is likely to start again against Mallorca and can score the opening goal for the second game in succession.

Forlan’s betting odds are 7/2 to be the first goalscorer against Mallorca and he netted in both La Liga fixtures against the opposition during the last campaign.

And the pressure may be firmly on his shoulders as usual strike partner Sergio Aguero is out injured.

Match Odds

Quique Sanchez Flores’ future as Atletico boss has been placed in doubt of late, but his team should still have enough to beat Mallorca at 5/6.

Atletico may have only won one of the last ten meetings between the pair, but they have only lost one of the last nine to be played at the Vicente Calderon.

However, a run of two wins in six games has seen them fall away from the Champions League qualification places.

Mallorca have also lost three of their last four La Liga away games, but are 10/3 in the betting odds to claim a victory that would see them move above their opposition in the league standings.

Michael Laudrup’s team have shown a capability to play well away from home this season as they left Barcelona with a point and secured victories at Valencia and Sevilla.

A £25 stake on the scorecast of Atletico Madrid beating Mallorca 2-1 and Forlan scoring first would return £500. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
