Liverpool 9/2 in betting to beat Man Utd with Dalglish in charge

Kenny Dalglish could not have asked for a tougher game as his first in his latest spell as Liverpool boss as he faces Manchester United in the FA Cup third round.

Liverpool’s betting odds are 9/2 to beat Manchester United and the club’s supporters will be hoping that the remainder of the season under Dalglish will bring more cheer than the first half under Roy Hodgson.

There have been many calls for Hodgson to leave Anfield after winning just seven of his opening 20 Premier League games at Liverpool, while also getting dumped out of the Carling Cup by Northampton.

These calls have finally been answered with Hodgson and the board agreeing that the time was right for the former manager to leave by mutual consent.

A statement from Hodgson on the Liverpool website said: “I am very sad not to have been able to put my stamp on the squad, to be given the time to bring new players into the club in this transfer window and to have been able to be part of the rebuilding process at Liverpool.”

Dalglish is fondly loved by Liverpool fans, particularly for his contributions as a player and winning three league titles as manager in a six-year spell that ended in 1991.

One thing that Dalglish will want to do is get the best out of his star players, which particularly means Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.

Torres has scored twice in his last three visits to Old Trafford and is 9/4 to score at any time, while Gerrard netted both goals in Liverpool’s 3-2 Premier League loss away to Manchester United in the league in September and is 3/1 to find the target in the 90 minutes.
