Record-breaking Barcelona on track for La Liga success

Published:

It is for more than the obvious reason that they currently top the La Liga standings, why Barcelona are the team to bet on to win the title this season.

Barcelona’s betting odds are 1/5 to win La Liga and they are four points clear of chief rivals Real Madrid at the mid-way point of the campaign.

This is noteworthy because 15 of the teams that have been top of the standings at the half-way stage of the last 20 La Liga seasons have gone on to win the title.

Furthermore, Barcelona’s invincible recent form does not inspire any belief that the wheels are anywhere near falling off their title charge.

Pep Guardiola’s team have broken numerous La Liga records in recent weeks, including having the highest points tally of 52 at the half-way stage of a season.

This has been possible because of the breaking of another record as they have taken the three points in 17 of their opening 19 games.

Other impressive feats are that they have scored 61 goals in these 19 fixtures, have three players who are in double figures in relations to goals scored and have a goal difference of positive 50.

This puts them well on course to break the all-time La Liga scoring record over a 38-game season which was set by Real Madrid in 1990, when they managed 107 goals.

Taking all these things into consideration, Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid are doing remarkably well to have remained so close to Barcelona in the standings, particularly as third-placed Villarreal are 13 points off top spot.

Real Madrid are the only serious challengers to overhaul Barcelona and are 3/1 in the La Liga betting odds to win the title.
