Scoring machine Dzeko big at 4/1 to net more than out-of-form Rooney

Edin Dzeko averaged better than one goal every two games during his time at Wolfsburg and if he can bring his formidable record to Manchester City, there is every chance he will outscore Wayne Rooney this season.

Rooney only has two league goals to his name over the opening half of the season and has looked a shadow of the player that netted 26 times in the Premier League last season.

However, the England striker’s poor record is only likely to improve and therefore Dzeko will need to quickly settle into life in the Premier League to make up the two-goal headstart he is giving Rooney.

Football betting odds have Dzeko at 4/1 to end the campaign with more than goals than Rooney and 9/2 to score a minimum of eight Premier League goals this season, with Manchester City still having 16 fixtures left.

Dzeko will also want to get off the mark as quickly as possible and Roberto Mancini has already hinted that the Bosnian is likely to make an immediate debut in their next league game at home to Wolves.

However, it is unlikely that Dzeko will start against Wolves and instead it is probable that Mancini will bring him on in the final 20 minutes to give him a gentle introduction to English football.

Furthermore, Manchester City do not have the greatest scoring record in home games against Wolves, scoring more than one goal just once in their last six meetings.

Because of this, the 4/1 offered on Dzeko scoring his first goal against Aston Villa in the game following Wolves represents better value.

Manchester City have scored on their last eight trips to Villa Park and Aston Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in any competition since October.
