Roma vs Shakhtar – Both teams to score the best bet
Published:Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu will have to secure a first ever win on Italian soil if he is to lead the Ukrainians to victory in the first leg of their Champions League second round showdown at Roma.
Match Odds
Roma are the 10/11 favourites in the Champions League betting to take a first-leg lead and they are currently enjoying a three-game unbeaten run in the competition.
Furthermore, Roma triumphed on the last occasion they faced Shakhtar at home in the tournament, when running out 4-0 winners in the group stages in 2007.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar also lost 5-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in the 2001 Champions League group stages against Lazio.
Shakhtar have never previously made it this far in the competition in five previous attempts, but may be confident after winning Group H, which included successes on the road against Partizan Belgrade and Braga.
Shakhtar are 16/5 to beat Roma, although boss Lucescu has never previously left with victory in his ten visits to Italy.
The Ukrainians will fancy their chances much more back at home, so will be content with a draw, which is priced at 23/10.
Both/One/Neither Team to Score
An away goal could prove priceless for Shakhtar if they are to qualify for the quarter finals of the Champions League and there is every chance they will get this at Roma.
Roma are the only team to have qualified for this stage of the competition without keeping a clean sheet in the group stages.
However, they will know the importance of gaining an advantage in their home leg and therefore are likely to opt for an attacking strategy.
This could mean that 10/11 is a big price that both teams find the target in the Stadio Olimpico.
Marco Borriello has four goals in his last five Champions League appearances and is perhaps the most likely player to score at any time in the 90 minutes for Roma at 6/4.
