Atletico Madrid to finally get revenge on city rivals

Published:

Atletico Madrid have been quietly going about their business in recent weeks and 9/2 seems a particularly large price that they can finally collect a long-awaited victory over Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have held the upper hand in the city derby in recent seasons, remaining unbeaten in 18 meetings, spanning over a decade.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have also taken 22 points from their last eight away games against Atletico.

However, Jose Mourinho’s team have dropped points in three of their last five away outings in La Liga, while Atletico are currently enjoying their longest unbeaten league sequence in two seasons.

Real Madrid’s betting odds are 8/13 to win at the Vicente Calderon, with the draw priced at 11/4.

In terms of identifying the first goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo is the 11/4 favourite to break the deadlock, but he did not look fully fit in the Champions League win over Lyon and is worth opposing.

Diego Forlan may be the better bet in this market at 7/1, bearing in mind that he has scored in three of his last four league games against Real Madrid.

Elsewhere in La Liga, Barcelona’s betting odds are 1/10 to beat Getafe and continue their push towards the league title.

Barcelona have won their last four league matches against Getafe, who themselves have not won an away game in 2011.

Pep Guardiola’s team have found the target in each of their last 26 league matches, while there is every chance that Lionel Messi will be the architect of Getafe’s downfall.

Messi has scored in the last four games between Barcelona and Getafe and is 2/1 to strike first, which would be his 28th league goal of the campaign.

A £20 stake on Atletico Madrid beating Real Madrid 2-1 would return £320. New customers can sign up here to take advantage of free bets totalling up to £60.
