Bookies looking forward to bumper weekend of British sport

BRITISH SPORTS fans are getting ready to place in excess of a million pounds worth of bets on the action this weekend, according to Ladbrokes.

The spread of action across the time zones means that fans are spoilt for choice with England starting proceedings as 6/4 underdogs against Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup. Later that afternoon the Three Lions are hot 2/5 favourites to beat Wales in Cardiff, with the Welsh 7/1 to win.

The Formula One season also gets underway in Australia and the time difference hasn’t deterred British punters from backing both Lewis Hamilton (7/1) and Jenson Button (10/1) to win the race.

Reality TV fans can also look forward to the first major TV final on Sunday night and the bookies will also be hoping that either Laura Hamilton (6/4) or Chloe Madeley (9/2) can beat long-term favourite Sam Attwater (10/11) to save them from a six-figure payout.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Punters are looking forward to a bumper weekend of sport and if it’s a successful weekend for Britain we will be in trouble. If it doesn’t go our way then our last chance saloon is the Dancing on Ice final where Sam Attwater can compound our misery by skating to victory!”
