Capello wants Terry back as England captain for Euro 2012
Published:England boss Fabio Capello is given serious consideration to the idea of reinstating John Terry as his captain ahead of this month’s Euro 2012 Group qualifier in Wales, to ensure they don’t stumble in Group G, which they are 2/9 to win.
Terry was stripped of the armband little over a year ago after tabloid revelations that cast him in an unfavourable light and has since fallen behind the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard and club team-mate Frank Lampard.
The expectation was that the Chelsea defender would never be given the chance to lead his country again, but with Ferdinand constantly struggling for fitness and Gerrard out of the trip to Cardiff, Capello is pondering a shock U-turn.
The rumour has been sparked by the Daily Mail’s Martin Samuel who, given his standing as Sports Journalist of the Year, you would assume must have impeccable sources to be willing to report the story as fact.
He claims that if Capello does make Terry his skipper against Wales, it wouldn’t just be a one-match deal that he would be likely to stick with the 30-year-old for the rest of his tenure.

England are 8/1 fourth favourites to go all the way in Poland and Ukraine next year and while Capello’s standing in the media has taken a beating since the Three Lions flopped at the World Cup, he retains the faith of the FA.
It is suggested that following consultation with FA chairman David Bernstein, the nine-time title winner has been assured that he has absolute control over picking his captain and that they won’t oppose Terry’s reinstallation.
