Schumacher making the bookies nervous

Michael Schumacher is already a significant five-figure loser for Ladbrokes as the 2011 Formula 1 season gets underway.

Schumacher is currently the 11/1 fifth favourite for the title but is by far the worst result for the firm before the opening race of the season. Sebastian Vettel is the 9/4 favourite for both the title and the opening race in Australia with Alonso the 7/2 second favourite for the race.

Red Bull are the 11/10 favourites in the Constructors Championship market with Ferrari just behind at 9/4. McLaren trade as the 7/2 third favourites with far bigger prices attached to the rest of the field, starting with Mercedes at 8/1.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Schumacher’s backers never seem to desert him and before the action gets underway he already our worst result. In the opening race we expect Vettel to do the business but with the new tyres and tweaks to the rules we can’t rule out a shock.”
