Donald can please favourite backers on PGA Tour
Published:Upsets have become commonplace on the PGA Tour of late, but favourite backers may finally be rewarded in The Heritage as Luke Donald has all of the credentials to secure victory.
Mark Wilson, DA Points, Johnson Wagner, Gary Woodland and Brendan Steele have all been surprise PGA Tour event winners in recent months and therefore it may be tempting to attempt to uncover another longshot to succeed in South Carolina.
However, given the strength of Donald’s recent form and his previous results in The Heritage, he can be backed to land the spoils at 10/1 in the golf odds.
Donald has finished in the top three in The Heritage in both of the last two years and the strength of his short game could be a massive positive at Harbour Town Golf Links.
The Englishman has finished in the top ten four times on the PGA Tour this season from just five starts and was victorious in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Donald’s current form is also impressive as he finished in a share of fourth at the Masters, despite Augusta being widely recognised as a course that does not play to his strengths due to his lack of power off the tee.
The one question mark that may be labelled at Donald is that he can struggle to get across the finish line and often finishes high up the leaderboard without emerging triumphant.
Brian Gay won the tournament by ten shots in 2009 and currently leads the PGA Tour rankings in terms of driving accuracy.
Finding the fairway could boost Gay’s birdie opportunities and 33/1 may prove a big price in the PGA Tour odds that he is in contention in the latter stages of The Heritage.
