Fallon will miss out on the Guineas after appeal is rejected
Published:Newmarket’s Guineas meeting is the first major event of the Flat season but one major character who will not be present is Kieren Fallon.
Originally set to miss 10 days of the season because of a ban for not riding out to the line, Fallon appealed to the British Horseracing Authority and while he was partially successful – the BHA have reduced it to a seven-day ban – he will miss the first two Classics of the season.
The bad boy of horse racing will miss both the 1000 and 2000 Guineas on April 30 and May 1, and Fallon was set to ride either Native Khan (12/1 to win the 2000 Guineas) or Fury (16/1) in the 2000 Guineas.
Fallon will be out of action from April 27 until May 3 but the six-time British champion jockey will be back on the racecourse for Chester racecourse’s May meeting.
As a man who attracts a lot of punters because of the amount of winners he has ridden and his absence in the Guineas betting will affect the Guineas odds.
More so in the 1000 Guineas which is wide open whereas the 2000 Guineas is being dominated by Frankel and Henry Cecil’s three-year-old is the 1/2 favourite to win the opening Classic of the season.
Frankel is also the favourite in the Derby betting at 5/1 and should he justify his 2000 Guineas favouritism then we may have found our superstar of the 2011 Flat season.
Fallon’s ride in the 1000 Guineas was unknown and Havant and Midnight Cloud are currently vying for favouritism at the top of the betting.
Either horse can be backed at 5/1 although Ladbrokes are currently offering 7/1 on Memory, who is a 5/1 favourite with one bookmaker.
