Money pouring on Frankel in 2000 Guineas odds

Published:

Frankel now seems certain to go off as the shortest priced favourite in the 2000 Guineas odds since 1970 after his anticipated victory in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

Henry Cecil’s three-year-old extended his unbeaten record to five starts in the Group Three 7f contest after quickening to a comfortable win and is now 1/2 to dominate again in the first colts’ Classic of the year.

Nijinsky duly lined the pockets of favourite backers when landing the 2000 Guineas at 4/7 41 years ago and given the lack of trouble posed to Frankel in his career to date, it is hard to see his winning run ended at Newmarket on April 30th.

The 2000 Guineas could represent the first part of a Classic double for Frankel this season as he is also the ante-post favourite to secure victory in the Derby.

Frankel is 4/1 in the Derby odds, but connections remain on the sceptical side as to whether the horse will be best suited to the Epsom encounter.

Speed and not stamina is a bigger focal point in Frankel’s pedigree, while he has also seemed slightly uncomfortable in his previous races when bumped by his rivals.

This is almost certain to happen in the Derby with numerous horses jockeying for position and steering clear of trouble by running around the outside may only compromise Frankel’s stamina further.

Therefore, Cecil may decide to run Frankel elsewhere, but there is still a strong chance that he will train a leading Derby contender in World Domination.

World Domination is 7/1 to win the Derby and it has already been confirmed that he will be trained specifically for the race.

The horse ran on strongly to land a Newbury maiden on his debut at Newbury after missing all of his two-year-old campaign.

A £30 stake on World Domination winning the Derby would return £210. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
