Premier League goalkeeping target opts for German stay

Manchester United and Arsenal have been heavily linked with Manuel Neuer in recent months, but the German number one seems set to snub the duo in order to sign for Bayern Munich.

Neuer has been in fine form for Schalke this season in helping them reach the Champions League semi finals, but with only a year remaining on his contract it was expected that he would move on in a bid to win more trophies.

A move to the Premier League was highly touted, but it seems that the 25-year-old has decided to remain in Germany with a four-year deal with Bayern Munich reportedly already agreed.

Bayern have been well below par this season and currently find themselves in a battle with Hannover for the third and final spot to secure Champions League qualification behind Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

Dortmund virtually have the Bundesliga title sewn up this season as they are eight points clear of Leverkusen with four games remaining, with Bayern a massive 14 points off top spot.

This means that the club are likely to invest in their squad over the summer under soon-to-be appointed manager Jupp Heynckes, with Neuer at the head of the list.

However, rumours are also circulating that a deal has been reached with Ajax for Gregory Van Der Wiel, with Arjen Robben leading the praise for his fellow Dutchman.

Meanwhile, there is also the suggestion that an approach will be made for Benfica’s highly rated Fabio Contraeo, which would give the club a host of options at full back bearing in mind they already have Philipp Lahm.

Lahm is one of the players likely to play in Bayern’s next game in their race for third away at Eintracht Frankfurt and it is 8/15 in the Bundesliga odds that Bayern secure the three points.

A £30 stake on Bayern beating Frankfurt 3-0 would return £270. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
