Huge support for Alvaro Quiros in the Open de Espana betting

In a week in which the focus of the sporting world has been on Spain, the European Tour get in on the act with golf’s Open de Espana.

All eyes were on Barcelona on Tuesday night as Real Madrid crashed out of the Champions League and the world’s best tennis players are currently in Madrid competing in the Madrid Open – a tournament Rafael Nadal is 4/11 to win.

Spanish success is everywhere at the moment and golf looks set to follow the trend with Alvaro Quiros and Miguel Angel Jimenez installed as the 12/1 co-favourites in Barcelona this week.

Hoping to upset the party is Italian teenage sensation Matteo Manassero who joins Quiroz and Jimenez at 12/1 and this is the 18-year-old’s first tournament back since winning the Malaysian Open 18 days ago.

Jimenez missed out on victory in the Ballantine’s Championship last Sunday by a shot to Lee Westwood and the victorious Ryder Cup star is in fine form.

Quiroz hasn’t been in action since finishing T27 in the Masters but his play-off victory in this event last year is seen as a huge positive and this is the reason why Quiroz has been backed into favouritism.

Since this tournament lost sponsorship in 2007 Jimenez’s finishes have been 52, 4, 31 and 17 and the Spaniard should not be ruled out.

Manassero is as promising a talent as Rory McIlroy and his confidence will be sky high entering this tournament.

It’s difficult to see past the front three performing strongly and it’s even harder separating them.

If you’re after each-way value then look no further than Simon Dyson (50/1) and Marcel Siem (150/1) and Siem’s recovery after a poor opening round last week makes him a huge price at 150/1.

A £10 stake on Alvaro Quiros winning the Open de Espana would return £130. Sign up here to take advantage of a free golf bet worth up to £30.
