Madrid Open offers chance for Wozniacki to avenge Stuttgart loss

Published:

Having defeated a former world number one in her second round match, Julia Goerges will have to defeat the current world number one in round three if she is to win consecutive tournaments.

Having defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final of the Porsche Grand Prix last Sunday, Goerges faces another battle with Wozniacki today and despite winning four days ago the German enters the tournament as the 5/2 underdog.

Wozniacki is 2/7 to avenge her final defeat and having made consecutive finals in her two clay court tournaments this season, the world number one will be determined to make it three in a row.

Goerges will take plenty of confidence from last Sunday’s victory and her clay court form suggests this will be a tight match which leaves us siding with Wozniacki to win 2-1 at 11/4.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands vs Francesca Schiavone

Having tipped her to win the Madrid Open at 100/1 after her opening round win over Ana Ivanovic, we’re right behind Mattek-Sands beating Schiavone later today and the 2/1 is the value of the day.

The two have never met before but while Schiavone is ranked 37 places higher than Mattek-Sands in the rankings, the Italian’s clay court form this season has been poor.

The two find themselves in the easiest section of the draw and the winner of this match would be fancied for a semi-final place at the minimum and Mattek-Sands is now 80/1 to win the tournament.

It should be a tight game with little separating the two players but we’re tipping Mattek-Sands to win 2-1 at 9/2.
