Man Utd’s ‘B’ team can still win final Premier League games

With Blackburn and Blackpool left to play, other clubs in the relegation mix may be concerned about the strength of the team that Manchester United will pick, but they have no real reason to be.

Manchester United only need one point from their final two games to secure the Premier League title and they will already be starting their preparation for the Champions League final against Barcelona.

This could mean that they are not fully committed to their final two Premier League games and may even rest the majority of their players to reduce the risk of injury and fatigue ahead of their trip to Wembley on May 28th.

If this is the case, then Blackburn and Blackpool must be given a greater chance of beating Manchester United and bolstering their chances of remaining in the Premier League this season.

In turn, this would not be good news for West Ham, Wigan and Wolves, who will be hoping for a favour from Sir Alex Ferguson’s team to enhance their own hopes of survival and are 1/12, 1/3 and 11/8 respectively in the Premier League odds to go down.

However, there are a few reasons to suggest why the three clubs can still expect Manchester United to take maximum points from their fixtures, even if a weakened team is selected.

Only recently Manchester United picked an under-strength team for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final with Schalke and still ran out 4-1 winners.

Meanwhile, Manchester United were in a similar position two seasons ago ahead of another Champions League final with Barcelona.

On that occasion Sir Alex picked a below-par side to face Hull on the closing day of the season and this did not prevent them claiming victory.

Nemanja Vidic certainly has no doubts that his team will still win games when the younger squad members are called upon, particularly as they will relish the chance to prove themselves.

He said: ‘You see we have so many young players. Fabio, Chicharito, Nani, Valencia, Rafael, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Anderson. This year they have proved themselves. It is a great squad.”
