Murray evens to repeat Monte Carlo success in Madrid opener
Published:When the world’s top four are all in action it’s going to be difficult for punters to find any value in the tennis betting, but Andy Murray will be the punter’s saviour today.

Murray and Simon faced off in Monte Carlo just three weeks ago and Murray destroyed the Frenchman 6-3, 6-3 and he offers all the value at 1/1 to repeat that straight sets win today.
The two have met on six occasions but Murray has won all of the last five meetings, including two on clay, and while many may not be tempted by his Madrid Open odds of 4/11 to win, it’s difficult to see the Scot getting beat.
Marin Cilic vs Juan Martin del Potro
It looks as if del Potro is returning to the sort of form that saw him win a US Open title and while Cilic upset the Argentine on their previous meeting in the 2010 Australian Open, del Potro should be too strong today.
The two have only ever met in Grand Slam tournaments on the hard courts with del Potro claiming two wins to Cilic’s one, and after his victory in last week’s Estoril Open, del Potro is the bet at 4/9.
None of the wins for either player have been in straight sets but after Cilic struggled through his opening round match, backing del Porto at 11/10 to win 2-0 looks the best value.
Rafael Nadal vs Marcos Baghdatis
By his own admission Nadal has a tough draw in the Madrid Open and while he will advance to the third round – he is 1/100 to beat Baghdatis – the Cypriot can take a set off the world number one.
The two have met seven times but it’s the fact that Baghdatis has won sets on four of the seven occasions – including a surprise 2-1 win on their last meeting – that makes the 6/1 for Nadal to win 2-1 a very tempting bet.
