No now looking a certainty say bookies

No to AV is starting to look like a certainty according to Ladbrokes.

Political punters have spoken and such is the popularity of the ‘No’ campaign in the market that the odds have been slashed to 1/25. It’s now 8/1 that ‘Yes’ win.

The betting also reflects the shock waves running through the coalition as Chris Huhne is now the clear 3/1 favourite (from 10/1) to be the next cabinet member to leave. It’s 2/1 that any Lib Dem walks away within 24 hours of the result.

Speculation is still rife over who may succeed Clegg with Norman Lamb a springer in the market (14/1 from 25/1). Tim Farron remains the 5/2 favourite from Chris Huhne at 4/1.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “The AV result is no longer an attractive betting proposition. Political punters are now looking ahead and envisage the ‘No’ result ringing in the changes.”

The SNP also harden as favourites for the Scottish election, now trading at 1/12 from 1/7 last week. Labour are 6/1 having been 1/12 when the book was opened.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “The SNP are red-hot favourites with a day to go. They’re now the price that Labour were when the campain began which is an interesting sign of change of opinion.”
