Play-off final victory could secure Borini’s Swansea stay

| 18.05.2011

Swansea already had ample reasons to give their all to win their Championship play-off final with Reading, but they now have the added incentive of attempting to keep Fabio Borini at the club.

The chance to test themselves against some of the best teams and players in Europe would surely be a big enough incentive for Swansea, while the hierarchy of the club will also reap some large financials gains.

It is 7/5 in the Championship odds that Swansea beat Reading and if they are to claim victory then Borini is likely to have a big impact.

Since arriving on loan from Chelsea in March, Borini has done a fine job of easing the scoring burden on Scott Sinclair and ensured that Swansea comfortably took their place in the play-offs.

Borini has scored six goals in his nine appearances for the Swans and is certainly a player that they would love to have in their ranks for the next campaign.

However, whether this happens or not could largely depend on the result at Wembley, although what is clear is that Borini will not return to Chelsea after failing to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I would like to stay in England because it is the best football in Europe. Negotiations went wrong at Chelsea so we both chose to go away and let the contract expire. At the end of the season they will get some compensation for me as a young player.

“But it is too early to think about the transfer window. I think about Wembley now and that is it.”

Reading are 8/5 to beat Swansea in the 90 minutes at Wembley and a victory would mark their second against Welsh opposition in the play-offs after beating Cardiff over two legs in the semi finals.

A £30 stake on Swansea beating Reading 2-0 would return £270. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
