Pour Moi cut into 5/1 from 6/1 in Derby betting as trainer speaks out

It seems the Queen has a real contender in the Derby betting following Andre Fabre’s comments about his horse Pour Moi this morning.

The Queen owns Derby favourite Carlton House and following his win in the Dante Stakes a fortnight ago, the Sir Michael Stout-trained three-year-old is currently trading at 5/4 to win the third Classic of the season.

But following a press morning at Epsom on Wednesday morning, Pour Moi has shaken up the Derby betting with comments from his trainer suggesting this is his best chance yet and the three-year-old is 5/1 from 6/1.

Fabre has delighted bookies across the country by describing Pour Moi as “my best chance ever” of winning the Derby, and for a man who has saddled three Derby favourites, it’s a big statement to make.

“I am in love with with him,” said Fabre. “I intend to be unpopular beating Her Majesty’s horse.”

Owend by the Irish triumvirate John Magner, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, Pour Moi is Irish-bred from the Montjeu line but all four of his starts have come in France.

A win in the Prix Greffulhe has left France talking about a potential Derby winner although the last time a horse did the Greffulhe/Derby double was in 1965 when the great Sea Bird II did it for Jean Ternynck.

Visindar (2/1F), Pennekamp (11/8F) and Toulon (4/1JF) have all been beaten Derby favourites for Fabre, a man who has saddled six Derby hopes with a top finish of fifth doesn’t have the greatest Derby record.

Considering Fabre has trained two of the greatest ever in Hurricane Run and Manduro, his comments about Pour Moi are a real eye-opener and it seems the Queen has some real competition for the Derby.
