Tevez 10/11 for Golden Boot after levelling stakes with Berbatov
According to Roberto Mancini, Carlos Tevez will be a Manchester City player come the start of next season.
Following last night’s 3-0 victory over Stoke in which Tevez scored a brace, Mancini said: “He said he wants to stay and he’s got a five-year contract. He’s told me this before and after the FA Cup final.”
“I’ve spoken with him many times in the last 20 days. I don’t see him changing his mind later when we are playing for the Champions League.”
The words of the Manchester City manager will be gospel to some Manchester City fans but there are still senior figures inside the club who believe Tevez will be leaving in the summer.
A brace for Tevez last night just reaffirmed his importance to Manchester City who leapfrogged Arsenal to go third in the Premier League and are now in pole position to get the final automatic Champions League spot.
Tevez joins Dimitar Berbatov on 20 league goals for the season and the two players will battle it out on the final day of the season to land the golden boot prize, although the Manchester United striker is still the slight favourite to land it at 4/5.
The Argentine is 10/11 to win the Golden Boot and Bolton stand in the way on Sunday, although it could be a bitter sweet pill for the Manchester City fans to swallow should Tevez score in what some believe will be his final game for the club.
Should Manchester City match Arsenal’s result on Sunday – Mancini’s side are 8/11 to beat Bolton while Arsene Wenger’s side are 1/1 to beat Fulham – then Champions League football is guaranteed next season and that could be the bait that lures Tevez into staying.
