The best Champions League final of the last decade is upon us
Published:Although many may be expecting the Champions League final to be a tense and tight affair, comments from Sir Alex Ferguson have indicated that the game may be more open and full of goals.
All of the last three Champions League finals have seen two goals scored, which includes Barcelona’s victory over Manchester United in 2009.
It is 4/7 in the Champions League odds that under 2.5 goals are witnessed again, while it is 9/4 that there are exactly two goals scored again in the total goals in the match market.
Meanwhile, only four of Manchester United’s games in the Champions League this season have seen at least three goals scored, alongside five of the fixtures involving Barcelona.
However, Sir Alex believes the game could be more open than this and rather than the final being settled by a solitary strike, instead Wembley could be in for a mini goal-fest.
He said: “Many people would agree it is the final of the decade. The success of both teams in the last decade has been enormous. It is an appealing final in terms of what could happen in the game.
“There could be a lot of goals, there could be a lot of excitement and there will be a lot of good football, I am sure of that. It is set up. The platform is there. Hopefully it turns out that way.”
It is 5/4 that over 2.5 goals are scored inside the 90 minutes at Wembley, while more daring punters may want to take the 10/3 that a minimum of four goals are scored.
With the dearth of attacking talent that is set to be on display at Wembley, it would certainly not be unreasonable to suggest that Lionel Messi, David Villa, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez will all find the scoresheet.
