3:45 Royal Ascot: So You Think to finally gain European plaudits

Published:

If you thought the hype surrounding Frankel’s run was big yesterday, just witness the attention that So You Think brings from all over the world.

While Frankel is a horse the British hold very close to their hearts, the New Zealand-bred So You Think is considered by many in the Southern Hemisphere, and a few in the Northern Hemisphere, as the greatest horse ever.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt has made just two starts in Europe, both wins at the Curragh, and is yet to come to the full attention of the European racing public, but all that will change today.

For those of you who know nothing about the 4/9 chance in today’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, the Irish giants Coolmore brought a share in So You Think last year for a reported Aus$40m, and the Australian public will be up all night hoping their prized asset can land his seventh Group One win at Ascot today.

We firmly believe that nothing will stand in the way of So You Think winning a Ascot today and the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes trends would suggest the same.

Punters are looking for a horse that has won over 1m2f, has won a Group One race, finished in the first three in a Group One race last time out and is priced shorter than 8/1.

So You Think fulfils all this criteria easily and when you add to that the winner of the Tatterstalls Gold Cup (So You Thinks last start) has won this race twice and finished second once from four representatives, it’s hard to see past So You Think.

But while there will be many willing to place big sums on So You Think winning, many of us would rather find the each-way value in the race.

However with just seven runners in the race there is only one each-way place to be filled and that can go to Planteur at 7/2.

Only four horses price 10/1 or above have made the places in the last 10 years and this is a race in which class comes to the fore.

Rewilding (9/1) may be able to challenge Planteur for second but the two market leaders should justify their Royal Ascot odds to come home first and second.
