Modric and Bale not leaving top-four chasing Spurs this summer

Regaining their place in the Champions League is one of the leading goals of Tottenham this season and manager Harry Redknapp insists they will be adding to their squad and not selling their best players in the quest to achieve this feat.

Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have been the leading names linked with moves away from White Hart Lane as Tottenham could only finish fifth in the Premier League last season, meaning that their next European adventure will have to come in the Europa League.

This eventuality has resulted in a lot of reported interest for their top assets, with clubs playing in the Champions League next season looking to use this situation to their advantage.

Manchester United have been heavily rumoured to be preparing a bid for Modric, while there has been foreign interest from the likes of Inter Milan for Bale.

Tottenham are 5/2 in the Premier League odds to return to the top four this season and Redknapp knows how imperative it is to retain his best players if this result is to be achieved.

He said: “Manchester United won’t sell Wayne Rooney, Chelsea won’t go and sell Frank Lampard or John Terry and you never hear people talk about them getting sold so why should we sell Luka Modric if we are trying to be a big club.

“We have to keep improving every year because everybody else is going to improve. We need to improve the squad in the summer and get two or three real quality players in.

“If we can do that and keep Luka and Gareth Bale and all them boys we will have a great side again next year.”

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is one player that has been linked with a move to Tottenham, with the latest reports suggesting that an offer may soon be made for young Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.
