Pick of the Pundits: Trumptington Street to trump rivals in the 3.00

Punters still struggling to come to terms with the end of an incredible Royal Ascot meeting may want to focus on Wolverhampton today.

Saturday signalled the end of a fabulous five days racing at Ascot and a tremendously successful meeting has benefitted the whole of the racing industry, but the next one remains a whole year away and there are many punters feeling a little down this morning.

No need to though because Trumpington Street in the 3.00 at Wolverhampton looks the pick of today’s horse racing bets according to the revered racing press.

One of eight races at Wolverhampton today, the Class 6 Auction Maiden Stakes sees Trumptington Street look to register his first win of his career in a very weak renewal.

A 5/6 shot, Trumpington Street is dropping back in class today as connections search for a first win for the £22,000 colt, and after a second place finish in a Class 5 maiden at Lingfield last time out, the John Gosden-trained three-year-old boasts the best form in the race.

Andrew Balding’s Rawaki will be making his first career start and his unknown potential may be a worry to Trumpington Street, but the favourites two main rivals look to be Inklet (5/1) and Starbound (4/1).

However these horses are yet to do anything of real note in their short careers and Trumpington Street looks like a great way to get over the Royal Ascot hangover.

5.00 Wolverhampton: Visions Of Johanna – 3/1

This selling stakes is an intriguing renewal and it looks as if there are three horses in the running to land this race.

It’s interesting that the pundits have gone with the experience of Visions Of Johanna (3/1) with three wins in her last five Class 6 starts, over the progressive Country Road.

The five-year-old Country Road is the 6/4 favourite and with course and distance form at this class, looks the pick of the market.

Tony Carroll’s gelding boasts the best form in the race yet is running off a weight 5lbs lower than Visions Of Johanna and looks the better bet than the pundits pick.

Mustajed also has to be respected at 5/1.
