Real Madrid playmaker not interested in joining Man Utd

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has promised a busier summer than usual for the Premier League champions and early rumours about potential arrivals at Old Trafford indicate that supporters won’t be disappointed.

The Red Devils are expected to act on the recent departures of retirees Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes and the decision not to renew Owen Hargreaves’ contract and plenty of players have been suggested as replacements for those stars.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea is considered the most likely successor to van der Sar, while Phil Jones is still believed to be on his way to boost their defensive options despite that much-anticipated transfer being delayed by some legal wrangling.

Perhaps the most critical pre-season addition though is going to be the midfielder that takes Scholes’ place in the squad and that appears to be the position that Sir Alex Ferguson, whose side are 15/8 to retain the title, is deliberating the most over.

The latest name linked with the club was that of Real Madrid’s Germany international Mesut Ozil, however the 22-year-old has wasted no time whatsoever confirming his commitment to his current employers, revealing that he has no interest in a move to England.

He said: “I do not move from Madrid.” In case the message wasn’t clear enough, his agent Reza Fazeli also issued a statement asserting that his highly-rated client is happy at the Bernabeu.

But there was encouragement over the weekend regarding their pursuit of Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder, contrary to prior hints that the Dutch creator was determined to stay in Italy.

He evasively said: “Only God will decide where my future lies. I can be certain of one thing: if I remain at Inter, then I will give my all to win everything again.”
