The Safety Net – Pironkova to benefit from Wimbledon experience
Published:Robin Soderling proved yesterday the value of sticking with prior Wimbledon form when making a prediction and we are using the same gameplan again today for the Safety Net bet in the hope of securing another £20.
Despite only losing to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon since 2006, Soderling was still only 2/9 to beat Philipp Petzschner and he made relatively comfortable progress to triumph in four sets.
This victory ensured our account now sits at a more than healthy £195.50 from our initial £20 balance and we are convinced this will be added to today.
We are turning our attentions to the women’s draw and believe that Tsvetana Pironkova certainly represents fine value to progress past Petra Martic in second round action.
Pironkova reached the semi finals at Wimbledon last year before losing in three sets to Vera Zvonareva, while she also went the full distance with Serena Williams, who is the second favourite at 9/2 to win the tournament, at Eastbourne last week.
Also in Pironkova’s favour is that she is seeded in the Wimbledon draw at number 32, while she made far lighter work of progressing through the first round by beating Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-1.
On the other hand, Martic required three sets to beat Vania King and Wimbledon appears to be the only grass court tournament she has participated at in each of the last two years.
This lack of grass court experience does not inspire much confidence, particularly against a former Wimbledon semi finalist and therefore Bulgarian Pironkova can be expected to win.
It is 1/2 in the Wimbledon odds that Pironkova reaches the third round, which would mean a probable opportunity to seek revenge on Zvonareva.
