Tsonga hoping the curse of Queens will strike Nadal once again
Published:Punters are in for another incredible day at Queens today and the highlight of the day is Rafael Nadal’s match with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Despite having a match-point on his own serve in the second set against Radek Stepanek yesterday, it took Nadal a third set, albeit a short one, to secure his place in the quarter-finals at Queens.
While Nadal may be showing signs of tiredness following his French Open victory last week, it’s the stats that should really worry favourite backers who are likely to be tempted by the 2/7 for Nadal to win.
The Spaniard has appeared at Queens on four occasions, winning once but – and this is the stat that makes Tsonga appealing at 11/4 – he has been defeated in the quarter-finals on the other three occasions.
On two of those occasions Nadal had to come through a three-set third round tie and statisticians will be happy to take on Nadal at a short price today.
The two players have met six times and Tsonga has only managed to win once, but the Frenchman is fresh following Michael Llodra’s retirement yesterday and punters should take the gamble.
Fernando Verdasco vs Andy Roddick
It’s the tightest of today’s match-ups but that shouldn’t stop Roddick progressing at 4/9.
We’re big fans of Verdasco here at Ladbrokes News but the Spaniard, like Roddickm has been struggling for form all season and Roddick’s love of the grass court can take him through today.
Roddick has nine wins to his name against Verdasco and six of those have been straight set victories so we like the look of the 11/10 for Roddick to win 2-0.
Marin Cilic vs Andy Murray
Cilic’s three-set victory over Thomaz Bellucci in the third round will have filled the Croat with confidence but Murray looks the banker of the day at 1/6.
Murray has five wins to Cilic’s one in head-to-head’s and the value looks to lie in backing Murray to win 2-1 at 3/1.
