15:10 Goodwood: Strong Suit to prove strength in Lennon Stakes

Published:

Last year Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes took Glorious Goodwood by storm, combining for an incredible nine winners.

The dream team are back for another assault on the Sussex downs and Strong Suit can provide them with their first winner of the festival.

The line-up for the Lennon Stakes is a cracking one with Delegator, Red Jazz and Libranno all hoping to upset Strong Suit today and the bookies are struggling to split Strong Suit and Delegator at the top of the market.

Both horses are 3/1 to win today’s race with Libranno at 5/1 and Red Jazz at 8/1 and all four horses fill many of the trends that the previous winners of the Lennon Stakes have thrown up.

10 out of the last 10 winners have been aged three to five which instantly rules out Blathazaar’s Gift and Beacon Lodge.

Nine of the last 10 winners have won in Group or Listed company and eight of the last 10 winners have won over today’s distance of seven furlongs.

While the four at the head of the market can all hold very strong claims to today’s race, it’s Strong Suit who, if he runs to the best of his abilities, can destroy this field.

Trainer Richard Hannon holds Strong Suit in the same esteem as his stable star Canford Cliffs and reports from inside the stable suggest Strong Suit is capable of going toe-to-toe with Canford Cliffs.

We’ll find out today whether or not this is true but if it is, expect Strong Suit to be clear come the finishing line.

Red Trip’s return to seven furlongs makes him an interesting each-way prospect at 8/1 but the 3/1 for Strong Suit looks to good to ignore.
