15:45 Goodwood: Sadlers Risk the safe option in handicap

Published:

The fact that Sadlers Risk finished so close to Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach and Nathaniel on his latest start means that he has to be the horse to beat in the UBS Stakes at Goodwood.

Sadlers Risk is conceding weight to all opposition at Goodwood, but the fact he appears to be a group horse running in a handicap may still mean that he is well-in.

Mark Johnston’s runner is rated 100 and he finished within four lengths of Treasure Beach and Nathaniel at Chester and this pair are now rated around 120.

Sadlers Risk is 7/1 in the Goodwood betting to win the handicap and horses towards the top of the weights have a fine record in the race, with seven of the last ten winners carrying at least 8st 11lb to victory.

Furthermore, Sadlers Risk is likely to get his own way up front and if given an easy lead he could prove difficult to pass.

Favourites have a dire record in the race with none winning in the last ten years and this does not bode well for another Johnston runner Halifax.

The step back in trip should help Halifax and he may need to improve on the form that he has previously shown.

Whiplash Willie showed a good turn of foot to won on his latest start when wearing a visor for the first time, but a 12lb hike in the weights for this victory will be hard to overcome.

Four Nations has been well supported from the bottom of the weights, but the poor form of trainer Amanda Perrett is a worry, while he has also been held previously in lesser-quality contests.

Bridle Belle is a horse that fits the majority of the trends for the 1m4f encounter and has been consistent at this level.

Therefore, Bridle Belle may be the horse to back each-way in the horse racing odds at 14/1.
