Desire for trophies leaves Modric wanting Spurs move
Published:Tottenham are determined to keep hold of Luka Modric, despite the Croatian midfielder interesting three likely Premier League title contenders this summer.
Chelsea and Manchester United have both certainly been linked with Modric, with the former already having a £22m offer turned down by Spurs.
It is believed that a move to Chelsea is what Modric wants, as it would present the opportunity to play in the Champions League again and challenge for more trophies.
However, Modric has been told that he will not be allowed to leave White Hart Lane this summer as he is an integral part of the Tottenham first team and vital if they are to break back into the top four.
Tottenham are also in no rush to sell Modric as he has five years remaining on his current deal, although they are likely to offer an improvement to his current £40,000 a week contract.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said: “I’d be telling you lies if I said he’s happy and he doesn’t want to go and play for whoever wants him. I think there are three or four of the top five that want him.
“It’s a difficult situation for him and I understand where he’s coming from. If someone is going to double or treble your wages, it’s difficult.”
Tottenham are 11/4 in the Premier League odds to finish in the top four this season and Redknapp admits that he still needs to bring in one or two new faces to help with this quest.
Meanwhile, signing Modric would be a boost for Chelsea or Manchester United in their challenge to win the Premier League.
Manchester United are the current favourites in this market at 7/4, with Chelsea available at 5/2.
