QPR chase England international strikers to help with survival bid

| 07.07.2011

Scoring enough goals will be essential for Queens Park Rangers if they want to survive in the Premier League this season and to help in this quest they are chasing two strikers with England caps under their belts.

Jay Bothroyd is perhaps the most likely of the duo to sign at Loftus Road and it is believed that the two parties have already met in relation to thrashing out a deal.

But the wage demands of the former Cardiff frontman seem set to be a stumbling block, although QPR will not have to pay a transfer sum for Bothroyd as he is currently a free agent.

Bothroyd is demanding £50,000 a week to join QPR, which would make him the highest earner at the club.

Therefore, QPR may want to shop around elsewhere for a striker and then come back to Bothroyd if they are unsuccessful with other bids.

One such option is Carlton Cole, who would jump at the chance of returning to the Premier League after his relegation with West Ham last season.

West Ham have already turned down a £3m approach from Stoke for the striker, but QPR may be willing to improve on this offer.

The Hammers will want nearer to £6m for Cole, who has two years remaining on his present contract, but could accept a lesser initial deal with additional payments included for the future.

Surviving in the Premier League will be the main goal for QPR this season after winning the Championship and they are 4/11 to stay up.

Meanwhile, QPR are 7/4 in the Premier League odds to make an immediate return to the Championship.

QPR begin their Premier League campaign at home to Bolton and are 5/4 to start in ideal fashion with a victory.
