Rain would help Button get first British Grand Prix podium
Published:Jenson Button is praying for consistent rain in the coming days as he looks to secure his first ever podium finish at the British Grand Prix.
Despite taking part at Silverstone on 11 occasions in the past, Button’s best finish remains the fourth he achieved with McLaren last year and also with BAR in 2004.
He will feel that he has the car capable of improving this record in 2011 and believes his chances will receive an even greater boost if the weather turns bad ahead of Sunday’s race.
Button is fully aware that his McLaren does not have the speed of the Red Bull cars driven by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, but is just as capable of starring on a wet track.
This theory has already been proved once this season at the rain-affected Canadian Grand Prix, where Button took advantage of a last-lap mistake by Vettel to claim victory.
Button told the Daily Express: “We do have changes to the car and I hope we have made some good improvements. It is going to be tough to beat the Red Bulls.
“If it rains it is not so good for fans sitting out in it, but for us in terms of our pace in the wet and in terms of a result, wet weather could be good.
“It definitely does mix it up a bit. Our car seems to work well in the wet.”
Button is 11/8 in the Formula One odds to secure his first British Grand Prix podium this year, while it is 10/1 that he does better than finishing simply in the top three and takes the chequered flag.
Punters wanting more of a safer Formula One bet can take advantage of the 2/9 that Button finishes inside the top six, which he has in all of the opening eight races so far this season.
