Torres the early favourite in Premier League top scorer odds

Despite his well publicised troubled start to life at Chelsea, Fernando Torres has still be installed as the early 8/1 favourite to be the top goalscorer in the Premier League this season.

Torres made 14 Premier League appearances for Chelsea last season after moving for £50m from Liverpool in January, but repaid this investment with just one goal.

However, the fact that he should now be more settled at Stamford Bridge and that Andre Villas-Boas has taken over as manager, it is anticipated that the Spaniard will enjoy a much happier second season in London.

Although there is still some doubt about his future, Carlos Tevez comes next in the Premier League top goalscorer odds at 9/1.

Tevez and Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov shared the Golden Boot last season after scoring 20 goals each and the Argentine is sure to be productive in front of goal again if he remains at Manchester City.

Javier Hernandez made great strides in his first Premier League season with Manchester United and should benefit from more starts in the upcoming campaign.

Hernandez is 10/1 to be top goalscorer, which is the same price as Manchester United strike partner Wayne Rooney.

If he would have been fit for the whole of last season then Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie would have easily outscored Tevez and Berbatov, after the Dutchman managed 18 goals even though he did not score his first until New Year’s Day.

Van Persie is 12/1 in the top goalscorer odds with Aston Villa’s Darren Bent.

Elsewhere, Didier Drogba is 14/1, while Liverpool duo Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll are 14/1 and 16/1 respectively.

But with virtually two months towards the end of the transfer window, some big-name signings should still be expected in the Premier League, which could have either a positive or negative impact on the top goalscorer market.
