Murray vs Djokovic: World No.1 to show class ahead of US Open
Published:Novak Djokovic’s incredible year looks set to get even better today when he faces Andy Murray in the final of the Cincinnati Masters.
Murray came through a tough semi final against Rafa Nadal’s conqueror Mardy Fish 6-3 7-6 (10-8) but looked out of sorts for much of the second set – though the Scot denies he’s injured.
Speaking to ESPN, Murray said: “It’s just brutal conditions, I need to get stronger. I haven’t played many matches recently and this was the first really long one I’ve played.
“I need to get more endurance in me before the US Open.
“I was struggling physically early in the second, it was really hot. I was hitting the ball good from the ground but I need to serve better and work on the strength in my legs.”
Murray has achieved his primary goal in this tournament by getting plenty of time on court ahead of the US Open and can be backed at 12/5 to win this clash.
However, Djokovic has been in sparkling form this season and, with Murray looking less than impressive in the second set against Fish, Djokovic should win this one – especially considering their head to head record.
Djokovic has played Murray on nine previous occasions, winning six and losing three. The Serbian has won their last two encounters and you have to go back to 2009 to find the last time Murray beat the World No.1.
Backing Djokovic to win this at 1/3 looks like the best way of cashing in.
