Pick of the Pundits: Chepstow preparing for attack from Cavaleiro
Published:The flame failed to flicker at Yarmouth yesterday but there was plenty of joy elsewhere for the pundits.
18 of the 50 writers in the Racing Post naps competition napped a winner yesterday and considering only 11 of the 50 can boast a positive return on a £1 stake for their naps this season, that’s some result.
Today the focus shifts to a short odds-on favourite running at Chepstow and four tipsters are napping the two-year-old.
Alan Keyte of the Western Mail, Computerman of the Western Express, Lambourn of the Racing Post and Mercury of the Daily Post all fancy Marcus Tregoning’s horse although all four are providing a negative return on their naps this season nd the price shouldn’t suggest an automatic win.
14:30 Chepstow: Cavaleiro – 2/7
The shortest-priced horse of the day, the four pundits are hoping Cavaleiro can provide them with a rare winner in this Class 5 1m Maiden Stakes.
The horse has already been backed in from 4/9 to 2/7 this morning as punters take full advantage of the opportunity that has been handed to Cavaleiro today.
The horse has finished 3, 2 and 2 on all three of his starts this season and was second in a Class 5 maiden at Sandown ealier in the month which was one by the favourite.
His two previous appearances came in Class 3 and Class 4 maidens and the two-year-old colt proved he can handle the better company on both of those occasions.
A quick glance at the form would suggest this is a poor race and Cavaleiro easily boasts the best form in the race and there should be no reason why he can’t dominate this renewal.
The combination of Tregoning and Hayley Turner is a real plus for connections of the horse and it’s difficult to see it being beat, although any money for either Midnight Sequel or Miss Granger would be interesting.
